EBS Ecologist Cat Nield has a keen interest in fungi and was excited to spot these tiny Bird’s-nest fungi (Nidula emodensis) during a recent field survey. These fungi grow on decaying wood and their spores are held in tiny ‘eggs’ that are dispersed from the ‘nest’ by raindrops.
In conjunction with the Ecological Society of Australia, EBS Ecology is proud to support SA Ecology Day 2010, a forum to promote ecological research and the application of ecological principles in the development, use and conservation of natural resources in South Australia.
The event was held on Wednesday 21st July 2010, at Adelaide University. For more information visit www.ecolsoc.org.au
EBS Ecology Ornithologist Alison Derry finally got up close to the elusive nationally vulnerable Thick-billed Grasswren south of Coober Pedy in late April. Thick-billed Grasswrens are often a species we target survey effort towards because of their threatened status. Although often seen from a distance during the targeted surveys, this individual was caught in a cage trap as part of a long-term fauna monitoring project.
EBS Ecologist Matt Launer got a little too close and personal with this legless lizard during a fauna survey near Coober Pedy this month!
