Ecological Assessment of a Proposed Marina Development on Hindmarsh Island
EBS conducted an ecological assessment of a proposed residential waterfront development on Hindmarsh Island, South Australia. The area consisted primarily of cleared agricultural land with patches of native vegetation and exotic pine trees.
As part of the ecological assessment, a vegetation survey, bird survey and fauna assessment were completed. The vegetation survey was undertaken to identify the flora species (native and exotic) within the area and to record the locations of different vegetation communities. The survey was also undertaken to determine the likely and possible impacts of the proposed development on the flora and fauna which occur within the area. The vegetation survey was undertaken in accordance with the SA Native Vegetation Council assessment methodology.
The project identified several plant species of conservation significance as well as areas which should be avoided by the development. Input into the design of the project to enhance fauna habitat was also provided as part of the project.
