Flora Survey and Fauna Assessment of a Proposed Rail Upgrade
EBS undertook a flora survey and fauna assessment near Penola (Coonawarra, South Australia) along a railway corridor approximately 1.7 km in length. The team identified plant species, species of conservation significance and vegetation communities. EBS then documented the quality of fauna habitat, recorded the species observed and determined what other species may occur (particularly those of conservation significance).
In addition, a series of maps was provided using numerous GPS points which were taken to identify features (such as fence lines, rail lines and existing tracks) as well as recording the locations of scattered trees and areas of vegetation - including weed infestations, rare plants and possible stock pile sites. The collected information was used to determine the possible impact of several proposed upgrades and for an assessment against the Principles of the Native Vegetation Act 1991
